Land Hoooo!!!
Matthew 8:24-25 "Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was engulfed by the waves; but Jesus was sleeping.The disciples went and woke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”…
What a frightening scene described in the scripture above... a boat in the middle of a storm and no way of guiding yourself out of it, except they had Jesus on the boat with them.
As most of you know, I was in the Navy for many years. During my time on the ship I had the opportunity to drive or steer the ship. I learned very quickly that one of smallest pieces of equipment on that vessel was the most important… The rudder… without it there would be no controlling the ships direction. No matter how hard you tried to set a destination you would just float in whatever direction the current decided to take you that day.
As I look at the way most people are living their lives it looks like we are ships without a rudder… floating around without any sense of direction and bumping into each other as we drift. Are you one of those vessels drifting around aimlessly without any purpose, destined to eventually run aground or into a rock and sink? If I were to ask you what is your rudder, what would be your answer? Think about that question… what or who is guiding you through this life? I mean this life is SLAM FULL of snags, dangerous currents, pirates, and any other terrible things you can think of lurking in the ocean. So how are you navigating it and staying safe? To be honest with you, most people are guided by the latest viral video or trend going on…. Or even worse, FEAR!
My advice to you is, pay attention to your guides. Who or what is guiding you? Start praying daily for the Lord to guide your thoughts and use the Word as your rudder. Take one day at a time and soon you will notice that your direction is true and your course has been made steady. That’s not to say that you’ll never be in troubled waters again, but what I am saying is you will navigate through them and not get stuck with no way of getting out. I have said this many times before, God sees us a beautiful completed painting… we are just living through the brush strokes of His masterpiece…. Who better to be your guide.
